Why is it different to other HD video websites? We graded on originality and innovation..

Discovery HD online cannot be said to be in any way innovative.

It is basically a promotional tool for the Discovery Channel’s HD interface and products.

As such you might expect a heady mix of downloads to hook viewers in… unfortunately this is not the case.  The site shows no innovation in terms of the range, quantity or length of HD TV available.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? Are videos neatly categorized? Can you find videos or links by genre or date? We tried and tested it out and graded..

The navigation seems fine at first; you can search by show or select from the left hand menu. There is also a search box.

However when we selected a show from the ‘Find a Show’ bar it took us through to the TV schedule and on both occasions the show we selected wasn’t even listed.  Most making this type of search would expect to be brought to a page dedicated to that show and a few downloads.

This HD video site shares videos with visitors but does not allow them to embed, share, rate or comment.

What is the quality of the HD video content here? What type of service or video is this site offering and how good is the image quality?.
One common factor in all Discovery Channel programs is the quality of the camera work and the glossy finish of productions. The links we used worked fine and looked lush.

How extensive is this site? How many videos or products can I choose from? We gave points for sites offering a wide range of content..

The site contains clips from some of its programs but ultimately delivers the bare minimum.  A company of this stature could surely have provided full episodes as well as short clips.

The range of shows was also quite narrow and overall we left feeling a little short-changed.
