Time Magazine has achieved international acclaim.  They now have a video news presence on the web, but can it deliver the same high standards?

Time's Time Out
The videos played clearly but took too long to load.  It actually deterred us from fishing about on the site for longer.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
There are sections on topics and series as well as a search box and useful feature sections, such as ‘Most Recent’, and ‘Most Popular in Last 24 Hours’.

What video sharing options does this site offer? Can I share videos, embed videos, download or make comments here?.
Videos can be shared or emailed but that’s about it.  However, Time also has its own YouTube Channel which you can access from this site – there you can find many of the same videos but these have the added feature of reader comments.

Is this site invaded by commercials? We watched a range of videos and evaluated how many annoying adverts popped up before we could view what we wanted… .

The great thing about this site is the fact that the video online clips all run cleanly without interruption – no adverts before, during or after.

There are adverts on the site itself but generally this is not an overly commercial web space and, quite frankly, that is a breath of fresh air. The ads were notable by their absence.  Good call.

Why is it different to other video sharing sites? We graded on originality and innovation..

The fact that Time has a YouTube Channel stocked with videos, in addition to a main site Video News section, seems to have had a negative effect on the direction and development of both web presences.  Both sites lack features that the other has and they would be better off with one good site rather than two mediocre ones.

The YouTube Channel lacks decent navigation and a current feel.  The Video News section of the Time website lacks interactive features and the buzz that accompanies these.

This TV news site lacks social options.  There is an RSS feed but that is about it.  To get any kind of interaction with Time Magazine’s online sites, viewers will have to visit their YouTube Channel.
