How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
Categories include ‘Product Videos’ with subs such as ‘cell phones’, ‘MP3s’, ‘laptops’ etc. There are also ‘How-to Guides’ with the sub categories and ‘Quick Tips’ for individual products within these headings.
The navigational tool was functional but could have been a little more creative.  The ‘CNet Live’ categories, for example, would have benefited from the show names having further information available before clicking on them.

Is this site invaded by commercials? We watched a range of videos and evaluated how many annoying adverts popped up before we could view what we wanted… .
There were adverts on the main site as well as prior to videos news clips.
The home page ads were not positioned to the side of the viewing screen and the video ads tended to be at the beginning of clips only. The ad policy on this site was therefore not as bothersome as on other TV News sites.

Why is it different to other video sharing sites? We graded on originality and innovation..
The site is very practical and dishes up all that you would expect, with perhaps just a dash more.  However there is certainly room for improvement in navigation, presentation and interactivity.

Blog, RSS, newsletter and Twitter. There is actually a separate forums site but it is not clearly promoted on this site, which is a shame.

The content on the site is current, diverse and interesting.

CNet had a broad scope of products for review and discussion, from cameras, green products, cell phones, laptops and this year’s ‘must have’ accessory, notebooks.

Metacafe distinguishes itself from other video sharing sites such as YouTube, aiming to deliver high quality entertainment in the form of short video clips. It strives for a ‘sophisticated’, audience-driven approach.

The video company has a growing diversity of partners including ‘top movie studios, music labels, professional sports leagues, television networks, video game publishers and best-of-the-web production firms’.

The site appears to have lofty creative aspirations and be innovative in its approach but we are not so sure about its audience - 2 out of their top 3 top video channels are porn!
