MetaTube is a photo, blog and video sharing site. It aims to be a contender alongside the likes of YouTube and MetaCafe but does it have what it takes?

There is a lot of foreign content and many of the video clips are short and lack the range and interest of other sites.  However, should you find something you like then it can be emailed, shared and commented upon.

An innovative site is buzzing with activity and has material to challenge, stimulate, amuse and entertain.  This site is very well designed… it looks great, but once you scratch the surface it is left severely lacking.

The material on offer lacks the bite of other sites – it just doesn’t grab you – there are too many bland, banal uploads.  The audience figures reflect this– the most viewed children’s clip had under 7,000 views, the most viewed funny had just over 4,000.

In terms of the profile of visitors, the ‘most viewed’ filters invariably come up with adult material and sports clips.

One annoying element of MetaTube is the complete lack of information provided for viewers.  There is no ‘About Us’ page and the site even lacks the obligatory welcome message.

Those wishing to consider uploading need to register before they are given any kind of information on file size, process etc.

If MetaTube want to play with the big boys then they need to have policies and information readily available to help their audience decide whether they want to become actively involved with the site.
