There are over 100,000 publishers and an audience of more than 28 million.
What is the general quality of video images here? Are some videos unwatchable or are some almost High Definition? We let you know what to expect….
Cool Hand Poker's Mantra
The quality between networks and user uploads is evident with some in HD quality and others which appeared to derive from mobile phones. Videos played pretty promptly but the image quality definitely varied from clip to clip.
Veoh streams content from sites across the web, and from a diverse range of sources spanning professional production companies through to hapless amateurs. As a result it has varying download times and inconsistent quality.
How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
The content on this site is vast and includes files uploaded directly from Veoh as well as content which is obtained from third party sites. It also broadcasts network shows plus allows for public uploads. Alongside this it has full episodes next to clips.
Confused? We are! All these sources and types of file make the site cluttered and bring up a mixed bag in the searches.
Why is it different to other video sharing sites? We graded on originality and innovation..
Veoh certainly does things a little differently but not necessarily in a good way.
The site has a bit of an identity crisis – it is part online TV network and part video streaming site – videos of both ilks are mixed up together giving Veoh a confused feel. It also has material generated on its own site in addition to links to videos from third party sites.
I guess some might find this ‘reaching out’ to capture a diverse range of clips forward thinking... but we feel it leaves the site devoid of identity and lacking a niche all of its own.
We can see that the idea may have been good – a kind of one stop shop where viewers can locate TV and videos on one site, but ultimately, as the saying goes, if you try to be a jack of all trades you end up a master of none.
How easy to use is the video upload tool? Are there clear guidelines? Are there privacy options? What is the limit of the size and type of video file that can be uploaded?.
You can upload videos of any length in a wide range of formats.
Veoh lets you upload a range of video formats and impressively has no limit on file size, resolution, or length. However, videos over 45 minutes require viewers to download rather than stream. Syndication – sharing your uploaded video with other sites – is also possible at the click of the mouse.
