The quality of videos is good; those professionally produced are slick and of high quality. Some clips are in HD. However, the usual quality issues appear on some of the user generated content.

Is this site invaded by commercials? We watched a range of videos and evaluated how many annoying adverts popped up before we could view what we wanted… .
Yahoo video contains a high volume of commercial content and promotional material but there are also the usual bloopers, funny clips and user-generated material. There is no user input as to what is included on the site, in contrast to sites such as Metacafe.
There is also the annoying feature of adverts that play prior to the playing of some uploads.
The site is generally more commercial than other video sharing sites.

Why is it different to other video sharing sites? We graded on originality and innovation..
Yahoo has a ‘copy cat’ feel to it – incorporating the features of other video sharing sites, such as YouTube, and trying to position itself as a contender.  
With the vast range of videos it already showcases on its sister sites; Yahoo provides a vast array of interesting content but is definitely a follower rather than a leader.

How easy to use is the video upload tool? Are there clear guidelines? Are there privacy options? What is the limit of the size and type of video file that can be uploaded?.
There is a simple process to upload videos and, in terms of file size, a limit of 150 MB.  The privacy policy is clearly stated.
Uploads are automatically entered onto the site without vetting but there are clear guidelines of the type of material that can be submitted.

Metacafe distinguishes itself from other video sharing sites such as YouTube, aiming to deliver high quality entertainment in the form of short video clips. It strives for a ‘sophisticated’, audience-driven approach.

The video company has a growing diversity of partners including ‘top movie studios, music labels, professional sports leagues, television networks, video game publishers and best-of-the-web production firms’.

The site appears to have lofty creative aspirations and be innovative in its approach but we are not so sure about its audience - 2 out of their top 3 top video channels are porn!
