Ustream is live interactive online streaming showing video on demand.  It enables anyone with a camera and web connection to broadcast themselves in a no-fuss, easy to set up, manner.

The site enables live interaction between broadcasters and viewers and also stores past broadcasts and clips.

Poor Streaming
As you would expect from a site that is streaming footage from video cams and mobile phones, many of the images were of poor quality and the sound was variable too.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
The navigation was average on this online streaming site.  There were filters and search facilities but unless you click on particular feeds it is hard to get a feel for what is on offer.  The categories could do with further sub categories and the links need better description and differentiation.

Why is this site different to other streaming sites? This grades the originality of the site. .

This is the age of personal promotion, when everybody wants to be ‘out there’ raising their profile.

The idea of the site is interesting but the trouble is there are so many boring, poor quality feeds that we, for one, don’t feel inclined to make a return visit.

Innovation comes from tapping into creative sources and far too many of these feeds were sub standard.

How extensive is this site? How many videos or products can I choose from? We gave points for sites offering a wide range of content..
There is a wide range of material on this video on demand site, from semi professional broadcasters through to hapless amateurs, with streaming focusing on a wide range of topics including programs revolving around chatty hosts and those more focused on a particular topic.  We found clips on a range of topics including one on beer reviews.  There are also live feeds from beaches, private houses and local cafes.

The site is free but there are lots of adverts on the main pages and within stream.

Quality of the viewing content. Here we look at the quality of the films, TV shows and videos we can stream..
The quality of feeds was variable to say the least.  Far too many of them lacked an audience which either suggests the navigation is not doing its job of matching up viewers with relevant feeds or that no-one is interested in much of the content on Ustream.

The content is home produced but did include songs which would infringe upon public broadcast copyright.
