Slashcontrol.com is the new kid on the block when it comes to video on demand, having launched in 2009. AOL’s contains thousands of TV shows and hundreds of movies. In total it gives you access to 85,000 videos from 30 content partners, including CBS, Hulu, The History Channel and more.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

You can find specific shows by typing in the name on the search bar or via an alphabetical list. The shows come out by season, with the most recent episodes listed first. Freshly uploaded movies are flagged up as new.
A synopsis of each video is given when the mouse rests over the screen shot.
Slash Control’s smart search tool is simple and easy to use.

Why is this site different to other streaming sites? This grades the originality of the site. .

AOL has made a tardy entry into the video on demand market. They have seemingly done their homework; picking up features and tips from other sites and using these to maximize their own venture. Because of this their site works extremely smoothly and they provide an excellent service.
Having said that, they have not added anything new or particularly noteworthy and although they do a great job, they can’t be said to be innovative. These guys sat back and watched whilst the competition figured it all out and then learned from all their mistakes.

The range of TV programs available for online streaming is far superior to the list of available movies. The movie choice is more restrictive than on other sites.

Quality of the viewing content. Here we look at the quality of the films, TV shows and videos we can stream..

Slash Control boast over 85,000 videos on the site, however the test of any site is the quality and not the quantity.
Overall there was a decent range of material but there is certainly room for improvement and it is apparent that new content being added all the time.
The movies section was a little underwhelming but, given time, perhaps the site will become more of a contender.

Metacafe distinguishes itself from other video sharing sites such as YouTube, aiming to deliver high quality entertainment in the form of short video clips. It strives for a ‘sophisticated’, audience-driven approach.

The video company has a growing diversity of partners including ‘top movie studios, music labels, professional sports leagues, television networks, video game publishers and best-of-the-web production firms’.

The site appears to have lofty creative aspirations and be innovative in its approach but we are not so sure about its audience - 2 out of their top 3 top video channels are porn!
